Tunisia is located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It boasts incredible Moorish and Berber architecture and wonderfully colourful medinas. In its capital Tunis, you will find grand, whitewashed buildings with palm tree-lined streets and a Mediterranean climate where the best months to film are April to September. Filming locations include national parks, ruins, cities, towns, monuments and long sandy beaches with clear sea water.
The official language of the country is Arabic, however French and English are also commonly used in combination with other Maghreb dialects. To film in Tunisia, a general filming permit is necessary and can be obtained from the Tunisian Ministry of Culture, which only takes a few days to be processed. You may need additional permits to film in certain locations which are not public property. Prices vary according to the value of location and time span of the shoot, and sometimes also in the number of crew. Basic camera, grip and lighting equipment, along with drones are available for rent. Import permits will be required if bringing in extra film gear.
