On most shoots, cast and crew stay at the resort being filmed. For wider crews or budget flexibility, we arrange nearby guesthouse islands or Malé/Hulhumalé city hotels, with speedboat or seaplane transfers built into the schedule.

Best Time to Shoot
- December to April – Dry north-east monsoon: the clearest, calmest and most reliable window.
- May to November – South-west monsoon brings more rain and wind, though shooting is still possible.
- Manta and whale-shark activity peaks seasonally by atoll (for example Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll) – worth planning marine shoots around.
- Underwater visibility is generally best in the dry season.
Visa Requirements
International cast and crew should confirm visa and work permission requirements before travelling. Typical documents may include a valid passport, flight details, accommodation details, invitation letter, crew list and equipment list.

A scanned copy of the passport, a passport photo adhering to strict Maldivian standards, and a CV or biopage for each crew member are required. Applicants must also provide their email and telephone number, employer details and occupation, a completed visa declaration form, and proof of mandatory health insurance coverage. Additional documents may be requested depending on the specifics of the visa application.

Visa applications typically take 7 working days, provided all documents are in order. Applications can only be submitted after receiving the filming permit.

International Crew Accreditation
International productions may require local coordination, film permissions and supporting letters depending on the production type, locations and crew nationality, and should work with an in-country fixer or service company.
General Film Permit
A film permit must be obtained before shooting, arranged through the relevant Maldivian authorities and typically coordinated with the resort and a local fixer. Resort filming requires the resort’s own approval, and marine or underwater work has additional rules. Crew require the correct visas and work permissions. Allow lead time for approvals.

To successfully apply, you must include several essential documents. First and foremost, provide detailed information about all shooting locations, including specific addresses and site descriptions. Additionally, submit flight details or copies of flight tickets, as well as passport copies for every crew member. Moreover, ensure that your application includes a comprehensive equipment list. This should specify serial numbers, values, weights, and detailed packing information for each item. In addition, a copy of your company registration certificate is mandatory. Furthermore, you need to include a letter of intent outlining all production details. Not only that, but all official letters must also be printed on your company’s letterhead to ensure authenticity. Similarly, you must provide hotel accommodation details for your entire crew. Last but not least, a sponsor document from the Maldivian side is required to complete your application. By including all these documents, you can streamline the approval process and avoid unnecessary delays

Safety and Security
The Maldives is very safe and highly geared to hosting productions through its resort industry. The main considerations are marine and weather conditions, seaplane and speedboat logistics, and the fact that medical facilities are limited outside Malé. Note that local (non-resort) islands are conservative, with different dress and alcohol rules to resort islands.
Rebates & Incentives
The Maldives does not currently offer a standard film rebate or cash incentive for international productions, though certain projects may be considered for support by the Ministry of Tourism on a case-by-case basis.
