Best Time to Shoot

  • October to April – Cooler, comfortable desert conditions, the main window for most productions.
  • May to September – Very hot, especially in Upper Egypt and the deserts; schedule early mornings and evenings.
  • The Red Sea is warm and shootable year-round for marine and resort work.
  • Winter is peak tourist season, so plan permits, hotels and site access at the pyramids and Nile temples well in advance.
Visa Requirements

International cast and crew should confirm visa and work permission requirements before travelling. Typical documents may include a valid passport, flight details, accommodation details, invitation letter, crew list and equipment list.

International Crew Accreditation

International productions may require local coordination, film permissions and supporting letters depending on the production type, locations and crew nationality, and should work with an in-country fixer or service company.

General Film Permit

Filming in Egypt requires official permits, coordinated through the Egypt Film Commission and relevant authorities. Antiquities and heritage sites (pyramids, temples, museums) require permissions from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and public and location filming may involve security coordination. Processes can be detailed, so allow generous lead time and work through a local service company.

Drone Permit

Drone use in Egypt is heavily restricted and requires special authorisation; importing drones is controlled and units may be held at customs without prior clearance. Drone filming near heritage sites, cities and sensitive areas is often not permitted and must be arranged well in advance – approval is not guaranteed.

Equipment Customs Clearance
