Why Film in Uganda?

Uganda offers breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and a variety of cultural settings, making it an ideal destination for filmmakers. Known as the “Pearl of Africa,” Uganda boasts dense rainforests, savannahs, lakes, and rivers that provide versatile backdrops for any production. The country is home to rare wildlife, including mountain gorillas and tree-climbing lions, offering unique opportunities for nature documentaries. With a well-established film industry, experienced local crews, and a growing infrastructure, Uganda provides a cost-effective and film-friendly environment for both independent and large-scale productions.

Visa Requirements

Must be applied for in advance.

International Crew Accreditation

We facilitate the process on your behalf, leveraging our established relationship with the Media Council of Uganda.

General Film Permit

The issuing organization varies depending on the shooting location. In Kampala, permits are issued by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA); in Entebbe, by the Entebbe Municipal Council; and in other areas outside cities, by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and the police.

Drone Permit

The Civil Aviation Authority issues the permit. For local drone applications, a local producer will advise on the specific requirements upon request.

Equipment Customs Clearance

Uganda is not a Carnet country. For non-Carnet equipment clearance, the process is managed by a local fixer.

Safety and Security

Uganda is generally a safe country with a strong focus on security.
